My father was one of the lucky ones. When his prostate acted up he had surgery and was just fine. Then he retired and seemed to age over night. He shuffled when he walked and fumbled at shoe laces. It took a few years to find out that he had Parkinson’s disease. Unfortunately the disease progressed quickly and his life took a downturn. He lost many mental and physical abilities including his speech. Unfortunately there has not been enough research to combat this disease effectively. Living through my Dad’s illness has driven home how important funding for good research is for men’s and women’s health. Let’s get this funded for prostate cancer and let’s not stop there. When “Dad’ is okay let’s keep giving for better health for everyone.
